Planet of the Apiaries operates out of Kwartzlab, a makerspace located in Kitchener Ontario. Below are a series of photos showing the development of Wayfinding at Kwartzlab over the past several months.

Testing

Here’s a short video of the moon under construction. We assemble the moon in panels of 8 cells. There are 10 total panels on the whole moon plus two additional panels on the top and bottom.

Each cell has:

  • 3 LED panels

  • 3 custom sensors that read when a cell has been pressed

  • Custom wiring

  • A custom PCB that controls that cell

  • A plywood base

  • An acrylic top with a light diffusing vinyl top layer

  • 3D printed connector pieces

  • And a lot of tiny hardware to hold it all together!
